A little later than anticipated yesterday, Bjoern Lenhard has crossed the finish line of the TransAtlanticWay Bike Race to take the title in this year’s event.
He was at the top of the field from Killybegs for almost the entire length of the 2,550km course along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. Bernd Paul had passed him briefly in Mayo while he slept and the German rider, last years champion, finished in second place behind his compatriot.
Our daily update had to be recorded rather than live due to a lack of internet access at the tip of Slea Head.
Meanwhile back on the Ring of Kerry, Ben Holmes has made a routing mistake and is feeling a little down after finding out he has to go back up over the Kerry Mountains. He’s still able to see the funny side of it though.
